THE MANDELBROT LAW FIRM VOWS TO CONTINUE THE FIGHT FOR NAVY VETERANS EXPOSED TO ASBESTOS
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The California Supreme Court shielded manufacturers from liability in a high-stakes asbestos case on Thursday, January 12, 2012, foreclosing a potential avenue of recovery for plaintiffs. At issue was whether manufacturers of equipment used on U.S. Naval warships could be held liable for asbestos-related injuries and death if their products were routinely used with products made of asbestos. The ruling, that the manufacturers — knowing that their products and replacement parts would be used with asbestos — couldn’t be held liable for the implicit dangers, failed to deter at least one California firm representing U.S. Naval Veterans.
Michael Mandelbrot, of the Mandelbrot Law Firm located in San Francisco (www.asbestoslegalcenter.org), expressed a resolve to continue to litigate and fight for justice on behalf of veterans. “So many of our country’s Naval veterans have suffered, or are suffering from mesothelioma, and other asbestos related illnesses caused by exposure to asbestos in their service of our country. The Supreme Court’s decision will not affect my firm’s commitment to continue to seek justice on their behalf in the Courts.

Mesothelioma is a rare, incurable cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. It is estimated that 40% of the American labor force, or an estimated 27 million people, were exposed to asbestos between 1940 and 1980. This large population is considered at risk for developing Mesothelioma. Researchers indicate that approximately 600 to 1000 Armed Forces veterans die every year from Mesothelioma. Many of these individuals served in the U.S. Navy.
